There are several drugs which can affect the results of Cryotherapy treatment as follows;
ANTIHISTAMINES
The natural histamine produced by the body forms part of the healing response and should not be suppressed. It is advised that you do not take any anthistamines for at least 48 hours in advance, ideally for a week before and for a week following a Cryotherapy treatment.
ANTICOAGULANTS (Warfarin, Heparin, Coumarin, Apixaban, Edoxaban, Rivaroxaban, Dabigatran)
Prevent platelets from sticking and clots forming, may cause extensive bruising.
NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ORAL MEDICATION (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Nurofen, Naproxen, Aspirin-high dose)
Reduces inflammatory response and slows healing. Also advised not to take for 24 hours post treatment.
TRICYCLIC ORAL MEDICATION (Nortiptyline, Amitriptyline)
Used as an antidepressant or to treat nerve pains, stops the action of histamine. Advised not to take for 2-weeks before treatment and 1-week after. If you are unable to stop this due to your treatment plan then cryotherapy is contra-indicated.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS (Prednisolone, methylprednisolone, Medrol, Cyclosporine, Azothioprine, Methotrexate)
Reduces healing by preventing white blood cell activity.
